Big Laguna Lake

Jauuary 12, 2008

Harry and I took took a hike through the Big Laguna Meadows in the San Diego Mountains. Both Little Laguna Lake and Big Laguna Lake were mostly full from the recent rains, however the meadows were still brown due to the persistant cold weather. The photos are out of order, so the lighting may look different from one photo to the next. The pictures were taken over the span of several hours during the afternoon of January 12, 2008.

Hikers on the otherside of the lake provide some perspective as to its size.

The Big Laguna Trail.

The trail again. Notice the side meadows that spread out into the forest from the main meadow.

You guessed it... Big Laguna Lake and Big Laguna Meadow (which curves to the right and extends quite a distance.

Northern shoreline of Big Laguna Lake.

This is actually Little Laguna Lake.

The meadow, which is brown this time of year, is surrounded by pine forests and stretches on for miles.

Harry stumbles across some mortar holes on a grinding rock.

You can almost picture the Indians gathered here 200 years ago preparing acorn meal on a warm summer evening.

One final look at Big Laguna Meadow (at least a small part of it) before heading back into the woods.
